Frequently Asked Questions
The Tensor Extreme Conditions, at R-value 8.5, is the warmest Nemo pad we stock and is built for snow camping. The Tensor All-Season, at R 5.4, covers frosty nights through the year. For summer only, the Tensor Trail at R 2.8 or the Tensor Elite at R 2.4 save weight.
Spoon is Nemo's sleeping bag shape: wider at the elbows and knees than a standard mummy, so side sleepers can bend their knees. The Disco uses the roomier Classic Spoon cut and 650 fill-power down. The Riff uses the trimmer Ultralight Spoon cut and 800 fill-power down.
Down, as in the Disco, Riff and Pulse, packs smaller and is lighter for the same warmth, which suits hiking. Synthetic, as in the Tempo, Soul and Jazz, costs less, keeps working when damp and suits car camping and humid coastal camps. Many people own one of each.
Most of the air pads do: the Tensor Trail, All-Season and Elite, Eclipse, Astro, Quasar 3D, Roamer and Flyer Cloud include a Vortex pump sack. For any other pad, the Nemo Vortex Pump Sack fills it without blowing the moisture in your breath into it, which helps protect the inside of the pad. Check each product page to see what is included.
How to choose a Nemo sleeping pad
R-value measures how well a pad stops the ground drawing heat out of you; higher is warmer, and values add up if you stack two pads. How to choose a Nemo sleeping pad

• Three-season, ultralight: Tensor Trail, R 2.8, 395 g in Regular, 8.9 cm thick. The Tensor Elite is lighter again at R 2.4.
• Year-round: Tensor All-Season, R 5.4, rated by Nemo for four-season use.
• Snow and alpine: Tensor Extreme Conditions, R 8.5, 505 g in Regular.
• Thick and comfortable: the Eclipse gives 4 in of air support, and the Quasar 3D comes insulated (R 3.3) or not (R 1.8). The Astro comes insulated (R 2.6) or not (R 1.5).
• Self-inflating: the Flyer (R 3.3, 5.1 cm), the Flyer Cloud with a stretch-knit top, and the Roamer, 4 in of foam and air for car camping, in Double sizes too.
• No punctures: the Switchback is closed-cell foam, R 2.0, and doubles as a layer under an air pad.
Nemo sleeping bags and quilts
Nemo's Spoon shape is wider at the elbows and knees, for side sleepers. The Disco uses 650 fill-power down in the Classic Spoon cut; the Riff uses 800 fill-power down in the trimmer Ultralight Spoon cut. Both come in men's and women's versions, and most are part of Nemo's Endless Promise range, designed to be recycled. The Tempo and Soul are synthetic bags, from $199.95; the Tempo's recycled fill keeps working on a damp coastal morning. And the Jazz is a synthetic double bag for couples, with a sleeve that holds your pad. The Pulse is a 1000 fill-power down quilt, 500 g in Regular. Buy on the ISO comfort rating, not the limit: comfort is where a cold sleeper stays warm all night.
Building a sleep system for Australian trips
For a summer walk on the Bibbulmun or Larapinta, a light bag or the Pulse quilt on a Tensor Trail is plenty. For winter in Kosciuszko or the Tasmanian highlands, step up to the Tensor All-Season or Extreme Conditions under a Disco or Riff. Add a Fillo pillow; see all sleeping bags and sleeping pads, or Nemo tents.
Why buy from Oz Backcountry
Free shipping Australia-wide over $150 (T&Cs apply). Most Nemo sleep gear goes out from our Helensvale warehouse on the Gold Coast; the Tempo bags, and any size we are out of, ship direct from the supplier, so allow a little longer.
