Anti Chafing Cream

A good chafe cream puts a slippery layer between skin and fabric, so long rides, runs and walks finish without the sting. We stock Chamois Butt'r anti chafing cream in three formulas: Her' for women, Coconut for sensitive skin and the cooling Eurostyle. All three are water-based and come in tubes or packs of 9 mL single-use sachets.

Frequently Asked Questions

Any of the three Chamois Butt'r creams works on inner thighs. Choose Her' if you want a pH-balanced cream made for women's skin, Coconut if your skin is sensitive, or Eurostyle if you like a cooling feel. Apply a coin-sized amount before you start and reapply on long days.

Yes, for practical purposes. Chamois cream is the cycling name, because riders apply it to skin or to the chamois pad in their shorts. Chamois Butt'r creams are also used by runners, hikers and triathletes anywhere skin rubs, such as thighs, underarms and bra lines.

All three Chamois Butt'r creams are water-based. They rinse out of your kit by hand or in the washing machine, and Chamois Butt'r says Her' will not damage or discolour technical clothing. On skin, soap and water washes them off.

How to choose an anti chafing cream

Chafing comes from skin rubbing on skin or on clothing, made worse by sweat and heat. Every Chamois Butt'r cream does the same core job: it lays down a friction-free layer and washes off with soap and water. The difference is in the formula.

• Her' Anti-Chafe: pH-balanced for women's skin and developed with a female sports medicine doctor and professional women cyclists. Aloe vera, shea butter, tea tree oil and lavender oil, with no artificial fragrance. Safe for men too.

• Coconut Anti-Chafe: built on certified organic coconut oil and shea butter, and the gentlest option in the range for skin that reacts to stronger creams.

• Eurostyle Anti-Chafe: menthol and witch hazel give a cool tingle, the feel riders brought up on European chamois creams look for.

All three are free of parabens, phthalates, gluten and artificial fragrance, and wash out of technical clothing without damaging it.

Tubes, jars or sachets

The 235 mL tube lives in the kit bag and squeezes out clean. Eurostyle also comes in a 235 mL jar for scooping at home, and Her' in a 946 mL bottle. The 10 x 9 mL sachets are the ones for race day, travel and a mid-ride top-up from a jersey pocket.

How to use chamois cream

Spread a coin-sized dollop straight onto your skin, or onto the pad of your cycling shorts, before you start. Chamois Butt'r says one application usually covers a solid ride; for Her' they quote around 48 km. On a long day, carry a sachet to reapply. It is not only for cyclists: use it on inner thighs on a run, under the arms, along a bra strap or under a pack hip belt on a big hiking day.

Chafe cream for Australian conditions

Heat and humidity make chafing worse. A summer bunch ride in the Gold Coast hinterland, a sticky gravel day in the Scenic Rim or a long triathlon run leg are where a cream earns its place. Pack it with your triathlon gear.
