It depends on the lock, not the combination. The ABUS Bordo 6000C Combo is a hardened steel folding lock at Security Level 10 of 15. Combination cables like the Kryptoflex 1018 and Numero 5510C are deterrents for quick stops where the bike stays in sight.

• High risk, all day at the station or the office: the ABUS Steel-O-Chain 9809K, 9 mm hardened chain, Level 12, 2094 g. Or the Kryptonite Evolution Mini-9, a 13 mm U-lock with Sold Secure Gold, 7/10, 1.43 kg, with a frame bracket.
• Medium risk, the commute or the café: the ABUS Bordo 6000C Combo folding lock, Level 10, 90 cm, 1170 g. The Yardo 7807F opens with your fingerprint, Level 8. The Infinity Loop 1806 forms two loops, frame and wheel, Level 6.
• Lower risk, short stops: the Kryptonite Keeper 510 folding lock (Sold Secure Bronze, 5/10, 862 g), the ABUS Microflex 6615K (Level 5, 580 g) and the Steel-O-Chain 5805K (Level 5, 590 g).

U-lock, chain, folding or cable?
U-locks give the most security for the weight but need a slim post. Chains wrap around thicker poles, trees and fences. Folding locks pack into a neat block on the frame. Cables are light and long, but they are a deterrent, best used as a second lock to hold a wheel. For the lightest option, the 400 g Bordo Lite 6055K fits in a jersey pocket.
Locking up in Australia
Lock the frame to something fixed, take in a wheel where the lock reaches, and keep the lock off the ground. Near the coast, rinse off salt spray and dry the lock. Kryptonite recommends silicone, graphite or Teflon-based lubricant a few times a year, not WD-40. Combination and fingerprint locks suit families sharing bikes: nobody hunts for a key.
