Climbing Skins

Ski skins stick to the base of your touring skis so you can walk uphill without sliding back, then peel off for the run down. We stock the Pomoca Climb 2.0, a Swiss all-round climbing skin with a mohair and nylon plush, sold as a trim-to-fit kit in five lengths and two widths.

Frequently Asked Questions

Match length to your ski: the Pomoca Climb 2.0 comes in XS (145–160 cm), S (155–170 cm), M (165–180 cm), L (175–190 cm) and XL (185–200 cm). For width, XS comes in 130 mm, S to L in 120 mm and XL in 120 or 130 mm; choose one wider than your ski's widest point and trim it with the cutter supplied.

Mohair glides more easily, which helps on long flat approaches. Nylon grips better on steep or icy tracks and wears longer. Mixed skins like the Pomoca Climb 2.0 blend both, a good choice for a first touring kit or one pair for all conditions.

Dry them at room temperature after every tour, out of direct sun and away from a heater. Fold them glue to glue or onto skin savers and store them in their bag somewhere cool. Keep the glue clear of dirt, pine needles and dog hair so it keeps sticking.

Not at the moment. Our current range is the Pomoca Climb 2.0 for skis, in five lengths and 120 or 130 mm widths. Splitboard skins are cut differently, in two halves to match each side of the board. If you need splitboard skins or a size we don't list, contact us.

How to choose ski skins

Sizing takes two measurements. For length, pick the band your ski length falls inside: the Climb 2.0 runs XS (145–160 cm) to XL (185–200 cm). For width, pick a skin wider than the widest part of your ski (XS comes in 130 mm, S to L in 120 mm, XL in 120 or 130 mm), then trim it with the cutter in the kit so the plush covers the base and the steel edges stay clear.

Plush is the other choice. Mohair glides further on flat approaches; nylon grips better on steep, icy skin tracks and lasts longer. The Climb 2.0 blends the two, which suits one pair of skins for everything, from a first touring kit to replacing a worn-out pair you've used for years.

Backcountry skins for Australian snow

Australian touring means long flat approaches and wet spring snow: a lap out of Charlotte Pass, the Main Range, or a hut trip on the Bogong High Plains. Water-repellent plush keeps skins from icing up and getting heavy. Dry them at room temperature after every tour, away from the heater, and fold them glue to glue. Before you head into the backcountry, carry a beacon, probe and shovel from our avalanche equipment range and know how to use them.
