Frequently Asked Questions
Mittens for most kids under about six. They are warmer and much easier to get on small hands. Older kids who hold poles, do up boots and grab lift bars often prefer gloves. Our Tots II, Zoom, Miso II and Whistler II ranges come as both, so you can choose.
Measure around your child's hand just below the knuckles and match it to the chart on the product page. For example, the XTM Muse runs XS 12.7 to 14 cm up to L 16.5 to 17.8 cm. If they sit between sizes, go up, which leaves room to grow and warm air around the fingers.
Choose a pair with a wrist leash, such as the XTM Tyke, Zoom, Miso II or Les Alpes, so a glove pulled off on the lift stays on the wrist. The Tots II has an elastic strap. For gloves without one, XTM's Glove Strap II leashes come in 3XS-S and M-2XL.
Most of ours are. The Whistler II kids glove and mitt use a GORE-TEX insert, and the Tiny II, Tots II, Space, Puppet, Zoom, Tyke and Miso II use XTM's HiDry or XtremeTex10+ waterproof breathable liners. The Muse is a fleece glove for cool, dry days.
How to choose kids snow gloves
• Mittens for little ones:How to choose kids snow gloves
• Mittens for little ones: mittens are warmer and far easier to get on small hands. Most kids move to gloves once they hold poles and do up their own boots.
• Easy on: the Tiny II and Tots II open with Velcro across the back of the hand. The Totally Wild and Tyke open with a YKK side zip, so kids can do it themselves.
• Keep them attached: the Tyke, Totally Wild, Zoom, Miso II and Les Alpes have wrist leashes, the Tots II an elastic strap. Glove Strap II leashes fit gloves without one.
• Waterproofing: the Whistler II kids glove and mitt have a GORE-TEX insert. Most others use XTM's HiDry or XtremeTex10+ liners. The Muse fleece glove suits cool, dry days, not wet snow.
• Size: measure around the hand just below the knuckles and check the chart on the product page. Between sizes, go up.

• 4 to 12: Zoom glove and mitten with a Rubbertec palm, and the Whistler II GORE-TEX kids mitt.
• 6 to 14: Miso II glove and mitt with a zipped heat pocket, and the Whistler II GORE-TEX kids glove.
• Also: Les Alpes kids glove (touchscreen fingertips), Tease softshell glove and Muse fleece glove.
Ski school here and in Japan
Ski school at Perisher or Falls Creek means a lot of sitting in wet snow, so waterproofing matters more than thick fill. A family week in Niseko or Hakuba is colder and drier: go for a mitt and pack a spare pair to swap at lunch. Finish the kit with a kids beanie or balaclava, kids snow pants and kids thermals.
