Description

The Abus Infinity Loop 1806 does the work of two locks. It is a 6 mm square chain with a ring at each end and a lock body that slides along the chain, so you form two loops of whatever size you need: one around the frame and a post, the other around a wheel. The whole chain sits in a soft IvyTex synthetic fibre coating, and it comes in 110 cm or 140 cm, in black, autumn orange or slow green.

How secure it actually is

Abus rate the Infinity Loop 1806 at Security Level 6 out of 15 and pitch it at a medium risk of theft. That makes it the lock for the everyday stops: the bike parked outside the supermarket, the cargo bike at the school gate, the pair of bikes racked together at the beach while you swim. The patented double loop is the point here. Lock only the frame and a wheel is left hanging out there; this chain covers the frame and the wheel in one go.

Weight against security

The 110 cm lock weighs 1400 g and the 140 cm weighs 1600 g, which is a lot of reach for the weight. Instead of carrying a chain for the frame and a cable for the wheel, you carry one lock and use every centimetre of it. It needs no bracket either: wrap it around the seat post and ride.

What it locks to

Slide the lock body along the chain to size each loop. Make one loop around the frame and a pole, then the other through the front or rear wheel. Or loop two bikes together, a parent's and a child's, with a single lock. The 140 cm length gives the most options for fat e-bike frames, cargo bikes and trailers. Away from the bike it secures a pram, a barbecue, garden tools or outdoor furniture just as easily, with the chain running through its 60 mm end rings to close each loop.

Keys and mounting

Locking takes no key at all. Push the sliding lock body home and it locks automatically, which makes a quick stop genuinely quick. The key only comes out when it is time to leave. The IvyTex coating is flexible and hard-wearing, and it keeps the steel off your paint while the chain is wrapped around the seat post or the frame.
