Frequently Asked Questions
A multi tool with the hex and Torx sizes on your bike, a pair of tyre levers, a hand pump that fits your valves, and a tube or tubeless plug kit. On long or remote rides, choose a multi tool with a chain breaker, such as the SV Pro 13 or Rap II 18, and carry a spare quick link.
The Lezyne SV Pro 13, Rap II 18 and Rap II 19 CO2 all carry a chain breaker and a spot to store a spare quick link. The smaller SV Pro 7 and Rap II 6 do not; they cover the everyday bolts on stems, seat posts, cages and cleats.
Sealant closes most small punctures by itself. A plug kit is for the hole it cannot close, such as a sharp rock strike in the tread. You push a plug into the hole from outside, the sealant finishes the seal and you ride on. A big sidewall cut needs a boot or a new tyre instead.
Many do. The Lezyne Alloy Drive has a hose with a Presta end and a Schrader end, but the Topeak Roadie Twin Turbo is Presta only. The SmartGauge D2 gauge reads both through one head. Check each pump's product page for the valves it takes before you order.
How to choose bike tools
• Multi tool: count the bits you need. TheHow to choose bike tools
• Multi tool: count the bits you need. The Lezyne SV Pro 7 covers 3–6 mm hex, T10, T25 and Phillips at 63 g; the SV Pro 13 adds 2, 2.5 and 8 mm hex, T30 and a chain breaker. The Rap II 18 and 19 CO2 also carry a chain breaker and quick-link storage. None of these has tyre levers built in, so pack a pair.
• Hidden tools: the Lezyne Tool Insert Kit slides into the end of a flat or riser bar, so it rides with you without a pack. It does not fit road drop bars.
• Hand pump: match the pump to your tyres. The Lezyne Alloy Drive is a high-volume pump rated to 90 psi for MTB and gravel tyres, with a valve core tool on the hose. Topeak's Roadie Twin Turbo reaches 160 psi for road tyres.
• Tubeless repair: sealant closes small holes. For a cut it cannot close, the Lezyne Tubeless Kit plugs the tread without taking the tyre off. It is not a fix for a sidewall tear.
• Gauge: the Topeak SmartGauge D2 reads to 250 psi on Presta and Schrader, so it sets tyres, forks and shocks.

Bike tools for Australian rides
On a long gravel loop west of Brisbane or a day in the Victorian high country, a snapped chain means a long walk without a chain tool, so carry a multi tool that has one. Tubeless riders at Nerang or Stromlo should add a plug kit and a pump with a valve core tool, since sealant can gum up a valve. Sweat and salt air on coast rides are hard on steel bits, which is why the SV Pro uses stainless steel. Carry the lot in a saddle bag or frame bag or a bike hydration pack.
