Description
The Lezyne Classic Tubeless Kit is a straightforward repair kit for plugging a puncture in a tubeless tyre without pulling the tyre off the rim. Inside the compact case is a machined aluminium T-handle tool that both reams the hole and pushes the plug home, plus five ultra-tacky tyre plugs.
What it fixes
A tubeless tyre usually seals small punctures with sealant alone. The Classic Tubeless Kit is for the hole that sealant cannot close: a sharp rock strike in the tread on a fast descent at Nerang, or a thorn that leaves a gash too big to plug itself on a gravel road west of Toowoomba. A plug fills the hole from the outside, the sealant finishes the job, and you ride on. It is made for punctures in the tread; a large sidewall cut or a torn bead needs a tyre boot or a new tyre, not a plug.
How to use it
Find the hole and turn it to the bottom of the wheel so sealant pools over it. Push the T-handle tool into the hole to clean and open it up, thread a plug into the tool's eye so it sits centred, then push it into the tyre until most of the plug is inside. Pull the tool straight out, leaving the plug ends sticking out of the tread, and top up the pressure. Trim the ends with a knife once you are home if they bother you. The T-handle gives you a proper grip when you need to push through a tough casing.
Looking after it
Keep the case shut so the plugs stay tacky, and replace any you use so the kit is full for the next ride. Replacement plugs are sold separately, and a quick wipe of the tool after use stops sealant drying on it. At 46.7 g and 82 x 44 x 21 mm, the case rides in a jersey pocket, saddle bag or hydration pack with room to spare.
