Dual Insert Kit

The Lezyne Dual Insert Kit Small puts a trailside tool and a tubeless repair kit inside your handlebar, where they replace your bar-end plugs and ride along unseen. Both bodies are machined aluminium, the pair weighs 77.9 g, and there is nothing strapped to the frame or rattling in a pack.

What it actually does

One end holds the Tool Insert Kit: hardened steel bits in 4 and 5 mm hex, a T25 Torx and a Phillips, plus a 10 mm hex on the head that takes up to 200 kg-cm of torque. That is the short list you want when a lever twists in a crash or something starts rattling on a rough descent. The other end holds the Tubeless Insert Kit: a hardened stainless-steel reamer with five tubeless plugs stored inside the body, so a puncture that sealant cannot close is a quick trailside repair instead of a walk out. The Small keeps the bit selection tight. Riders who want more hex and Torx sizes on hand step up to the Medium or Large.

Size, weight and carrying

Each kit slides into a bar end and sits there as the plug. Three different O-rings come in the box so you can match the inside of your bar for a secure fit. The kits fit standard mountain bike and flat bars rather than road drops. At 77.9 g for the pair, they disappear from your mind until the moment a bolt rattles loose halfway round a lap of Nerang or a long day at Mount Joyce.

Build quality

The bodies are machined aluminium, the bits are hardened steel and the reamer is hardened stainless steel. To swap bits on the Tool Insert Kit, roll the O-ring off the body and lift the bit out.

Looking after it

Pull both kits out after a wet or muddy ride, let them dry, and check your tubeless plugs every few months so there is always a fresh one waiting.
