Nemo Tensor Extreme Conditions Insulated Sleeping Pad
Description
Description
The Nemo Tensor Extreme Conditions is a winter sleeping pad with an R-value of 8.5, weighing 505 g in Regular and 8.9 cm thick. Its Apex baffle structure is what buys that insulation at a weight most four-season pads cannot match.
Who it's for
Snow camping, alpine winter, and anyone who has been cold from underneath and does not intend to repeat it. An R-value of 8.5 is genuine mountaineering insulation at a weight close to a three-season pad.
Overkill for Australian summer. If you camp above the snowline in winter it is exactly right; if you do not, the Tensor Trail saves 110 g and money.
What R-value means for you
R-value measures how well a pad stops heat escaping into the ground, and it is the number that decides whether you sleep. A sleeping bag insulates the air around you; underneath, your body weight crushes the fill flat and the bag does almost nothing. Rough guide: under 2 is summer, 2 to 4 is three-season, 4 to 6 handles frost, and above 6 is snow.
At 8.5 this sits above almost everything else in the category, and comfortably above the 6 that marks the start of snow use. Nemo call it the warmest ultralight pad on the market.
Comfort and noise
8.9 cm thick, the same loft as the Tensor Trail — the extra warmth comes from the internal structure, not from more air. The Apex baffles hold the surface flat while trapping insulation in layers.
Like the rest of the Tensor line it is built to be quiet, which matters more in winter when you are in a tent with other people and nobody is sleeping well anyway.
Weight
Regular Mummy 472 g, Regular 505 g, Regular Wide 625 g, Long Wide 660 g. Packed weights run 554 g to 745 g.
The comparison that matters: 110 g more than the Tensor Trail for nearly three times the R-value. That is an unusually good trade, and it is the whole argument for this pad.
