Nemo Eclipse All-Season Sleeping Pad

The Nemo Eclipse All-Season Sleeping Pad is an insulated backpacking air pad that puts comfort first. The Eclipse All-Season uses lengthwise Spaceframe baffles that cradle you without bounce, quiet Thermal Mirror insulation for use through every season, and a Laylow valve for fine-tuning firmness. It comes in Regular, Regular Wide and Long Wide.

Who it's for

The Eclipse All-Season is for the walker who wants one pad for the whole year and refuses to sleep badly to save a little pack space. Take it on a summer crossing of the Overland Track, an autumn weekend in the Budawangs, or a winter overnighter in the Victorian Alps, and it is the same deep, comfortable bed every time.

Side sleepers and restless sleepers will like the Regular Wide and Long Wide, which give your elbows somewhere to go when you roll over. The Long Wide adds length for taller walkers.

What R-value means for you

R-value is how well a pad stops the cold ground drawing heat out of you overnight. Higher is warmer, and on a frosty night what you lie on matters as much as your sleeping bag. The Eclipse All-Season suspends layers of Thermal Mirror insulation freely inside every baffle, which Nemo designs to give quiet warmth across all seasons.

That means you can keep the same pad in the pack from a warm night in the Grampians to a frosty camp in Kosciuszko National Park in the shoulder seasons.

Comfort and noise

The baffles run the length of the pad with gentle contouring, so you settle into the middle and stay there rather than rolling off in the night. Nemo's Spaceframe construction uses low-stretch, die-cut trusses, which takes the springy, trampoline feel out of an air pad and spreads your weight evenly. The insulation is freely suspended inside each baffle, and Nemo describes the warmth it gives as quiet.

Inflation and packing

Fill it with the included Vortex pump sack, which makes inflation quick and easy and minimises moisture getting into the pad. Once you are lying on it, the Laylow valve lets air out at the touch of a finger, so you can soften it a little at a time until it feels right. The valve sits flush with the pad and stays out of the way. To pack, open the valve, roll from the far end and strap it into its stuff sack; it compresses down small.

Weight

The Eclipse All-Season is a backpacking pad, built to be carried on multi-day walks. The Regular is the lightest and smallest of the three sizes; the Regular Wide and Long Wide trade a little more weight for room to spread out. Pick the smallest size that sleeps you well.

Durability and repair

Repair patches come in the box, so a small hole is a quick fix at camp rather than a cold night. Clear the ground of sticks and sharp stones before you lay it out, and use it inside the tent rather than straight on rock.

Looking after it

Inflate it with the pump sack rather than your breath to keep moisture out of the baffles. At home, store it unrolled with the valve open, somewhere cool and dry.
