Description

The Disco is Nemo's down backpacking sleeping bag, rated to -1 C and cut in their Classic Spoon shape - wider at the elbows and knees so a side sleeper can roll over without fighting the bag, and trimmed everywhere that room is not being used. Part of the Endless Promise range, built to be sent back and recycled at the end of its life.

Who it's for

Side sleepers who have had enough of being strapped to a board. The Disco is cut wide at the elbows and knees and snug everywhere warmth matters, so you can draw a knee up and roll over without taking the whole bag with you.

Comfortable to 4°C, this is the summer and shoulder-season bag - Gold Coast hinterland nights, coastal camping, and high-country trips through the warmer months.

Understanding the temperature rating

Two numbers matter, and the one to buy on is comfort. Comfort at 4°C is the temperature you stay warm through the night. Limit at -1°C is where a warm sleeper is curled up and holding on until morning. Plan your trips around the comfort figure and you will sleep; plan them around the limit and you will spend the night awake doing sums.

Both are ISO tested, so they compare directly against any other bag quoting the same standard - which makes them the only honest way to line two bags up against each other.

Shape and room

The Spoon shape is the whole point of a Disco. Extra width at the elbows and knees, tapered at the shoulders and feet, so you sleep the way you do at home rather than the way a mummy bag insists on.

Thermo Gill vents run along the top. Open them when the night turns warmer than you packed for and dump heat without opening the bag and losing the lot - which is how one bag covers a much wider spread of Australian nights.

Down or synthetic here

650 fill-power down, 320 g of it in the Regular. Down buys you warmth for the weight and a pack size synthetic cannot touch, and 650 FP is the practical, hard-wearing end of the scale.

Weight and packed size

880 g minimum weight in the Regular, compressing to 3.7 litres and 27 x 17.5 cm. That disappears into a 40-litre pack.

Sizing

Regular fits up to 183 cm, Long up to 198 cm, and both come in a Wide. Take the Wide if you sleep on your side or simply hate being held in - it costs very little and buys a much better night.

How it compares

Endless Promise means Nemo built it to come back and be remade at the end of its life instead of going to landfill. It costs you nothing and it is a better answer than a bag that becomes rubbish in a decade.

One habit doubles its life: store it loose. Keep it in the big cotton sack it arrives in and save the stuff sack for the trail. Down that lives compressed stops lofting, and loft is the whole product.

FAQ's

How cold can I take the Disco 30?
Comfortable to 4°C, with -1°C as the limit where a warm sleeper is holding on. Plan trips around the 4°C figure.

What is the Spoon shape?
Wider at the elbows and knees, tapered at shoulders and feet. It lets you sleep on your side and roll over without the bag rolling with you.

What are the Thermo Gill vents?
Vents along the top that dump heat on a mild night without opening the bag up, so one bag covers a much wider range of conditions.

Should I take the Wide?
Take it if you sleep on your side or dislike a close fit. The extra girth costs very little weight and buys a noticeably better night.

How do I store it?
Loose, never compressed. Use the big cotton sack it comes with and keep the stuff sack for the trail - down stored squashed stops lofting.
