Description

The Riff is Nemo's 800 fill-power down three-season sleeping bag, cut in their Spoon shape - wider at the elbows and knees for side sleepers, trim everywhere else so it packs small. Part of the Endless Promise range, built to be sent back and recycled at the end of its life.

Who it's for

Side sleepers counting grams. The Riff gives you the same room to move as the Disco - wide at the elbows and knees, tapered where it counts - and does it at 845 g by using better down.

Comfortable to 4°C, this is a warm-weather and shoulder-season bag for multi-day walking where every gram gets weighed.

Understanding the temperature rating

Two numbers matter, and the one to buy on is comfort. Comfort at 4°C is the temperature you stay warm through the night. Limit at -2°C is where a warm sleeper is curled up and holding on until morning. Plan your trips around the comfort figure and you will sleep; plan them around the limit and you will spend the night awake doing sums.

Both are ISO tested, so they compare directly against any other bag quoting the same standard - which makes them the only honest way to line two bags up against each other.

Shape and room

Spoon shape, so you can draw a knee up and turn over without the bag turning with you. Thermo Gill vents on the top let you dump heat on a mild night without opening the whole thing.

Down or synthetic here

800 fill-power down, 295 g of it in the Regular. Higher fill power means more loft per gram, which is exactly where the weight saving over the Disco comes from - same shape, same room, lighter bag.

Weight and packed size

845 g minimum weight in the Regular, compressing to 4 litres at 26 x 19 cm. That is genuinely light for a bag you can sleep on your side in.

Sizing

Regular fits to 183 cm and Long to 198 cm.

How it compares

Endless Promise means Nemo built it to come back and be remade at the end of its life instead of going to landfill. It costs you nothing and it is a better answer than a bag that becomes rubbish in a decade.

One habit doubles its life: store it loose. Keep it in the big cotton sack it arrives in and save the stuff sack for the trail. Down that lives compressed stops lofting, and loft is the whole product.

FAQ's

How cold can I take the Riff 30?
Comfortable to 4°C, with -2°C as the limit. Buy on the comfort figure if you want to sleep rather than endure.

What is the difference between the Riff and the Disco?
Down quality. Both use the same Spoon shape; the Riff uses 800 fill power against the Disco's 650, so it is lighter and packs smaller.

What does 800 fill power mean?
More loft per gram of down. Higher fill power gives the same warmth for less weight, which is what you are paying for.

Can I sleep on my side in it?
The Spoon shape exists for exactly that - extra width at the elbows and knees so you can turn over and draw a knee up without the bag coming with you.

How do I look after the down?
Store it loose in the cotton sack it comes with. Down that lives compressed stops lofting, and loft is the whole product.
