Lashing gear to the bike or to your bags: a jacket on the bars, a sleeping mat under the downtube, a spare tube on the frame, or a dry bag in a fork cage. They also make a quick repair when a bag buckle breaks. Carry a pair even on day rides.
Measure round the gear and the tube it straps to, then add a little to grab. A 25 cm strap holds a tube or tool roll on the frame, 45 cm a jacket on the bars, and 65 cm a sleeping mat or a bag in a cargo cage. Restrap's mixed set gives you one of each.
They can if grit gets under them and rubs. EVOC's TPU straps are padded and made to protect the frame from abrasion. With any strap, put a strip of protective frame tape where it sits, keep the contact area clean, and check carbon frames and forks more often.

• Buckle or stretch: the Restrap Fast Strap is flat Hypalon with a buckle and a grip tab: wrap, feed, pull and press. It holds over rough ground and undoes with cold fingers. The EVOC TPU Straps are elastic and grip without cranking tight, which suits odd-shaped loads.
• Length: Fast Straps come in pairs, Small 25 cm, Medium 45 cm and Large 65 cm, or a mixed set of one of each. EVOC TPU Straps come in 23, 35 and 40 cm and weigh 12 to 18 g each.
• Protect the paint: EVOC's padded TPU protects the frame from rubbing. With any strap, a strip of frame tape under it stops grit wearing through the finish.
• Carry a spare pair: a broken buckle on a bag is fixed in a minute with a spare strap.
Cargo cages and mounts
• Topeak VersaCage: a 128 g cargo cage for the fork or frame that carries a dry bag, sleeping bag or mat up to 3 kg, with two 66 cm buckle straps. It bolts to bosses or clamps to 20 to 60 mm tubes, including suspension forks.
• Backloader Wishbone: a 190 g frame that braces a Topeak Backloader seat pack under 18 cm wide so it stops swaying, and adds two bottle mounts.
• DP Mount: clamps to a 22 to 27 mm dropper post for a saddle bag, bottle cage or tail light.
• Ninja Free Strappack: a 22 g mount and strap that holds a tube with a mini tool or CO2.
• EVOC Food Pouch: a 0.75 L insulated pouch on a 3-point mount at the cockpit, for food or a bottle.
