Alt-Position Cage Mount

The Topeak Alt-Position Cage Mount is a 25 g aluminium adapter plate that shifts a bottle cage 32 mm up or down from its usual bolt holes. The Topeak Alt-Position Cage Mount works with Topeak Tri-BackUp Elite and Omni-BackUp Elite rear hydration mounts, and helps fit Topeak Ninja cages into small frames.

Behind-the-saddle bottle mounts are brilliant for triathlon and long road days, until you swing a leg over and kick a bottle. Dropping the cages 32 mm clears your leg; raising them can make a bottle easier to reach on the move. In a small frame, the same 32 mm shift is often the difference between two cages fitting or clashing, which is where the Ninja combinations come in.

How it attaches

The plate bolts onto the existing bottle cage mounting point, and the cage bolts onto the plate in its new position. Each mount weighs 25 g including its four bolts, and it measures 10.8 x 1.2 x 9 cm. Once it is bolted on there is nothing to adjust or work loose.

Weight and material

Made from aluminium, each mount adds just 25 g to the bike, so it costs nothing you will notice on a long day.

Looking after it

Check the bolts after the first few rides and after any crash, and put a dab of grease on the threads if you ride through winter or near the coast so they come out cleanly later.
