Fixed length or adjustable?
Our lightest folding pole is the fixed-lengthFixed length or adjustable?
Our lightest folding pole is the fixed-length Black Diamond Distance Carbon Z: 264 g a pair at 110 cm. Treeline Review generally prefers adjustable poles, because you can shorten them for climbs and lengthen them for descents. The Distance Carbon FLZ and the aluminium Trail Vista FLZ fold like a Z pole and adjust with a FlickLock.
Are folding poles as strong as telescopic poles?
Trail Hiking Australia warns that folding poles cope less well with side loads in thick scrub, and that a snapped internal cord cannot be fixed on the track. Trail Hiking Australia finds telescopic poles the most common choice among Australian walkers. Folding poles make most sense for travel, running and walks where the poles spend a lot of time on your pack.
