The Podium Chill is CamelBak's insulated bike bottle - double-walled to keep drinks cold roughly twice as long as a standard bottle, with their self-sealing valve so it does not drip in the cage.
Who it's for
Riders who want cold water without carrying a steel bottle to get it. This is the middle ground and, for most people, the right one: double-wall insulation keeps a bottle cold far longer than a single-wall plastic one, at 99 g rather than the 300 g an insulated steel bottle costs. On a bike, where you lift it forty times a ride, that difference is the whole argument.
Capacity and fit
0.6 L at 99 g and 23.8 cm tall, or 0.7 L at 122 g and 26.6 cm. Both are around 7.3 cm across and reengineered to fit securely in a wide variety of bottle cages. The 0.6 L is the one for small frames and short seat tubes; take the 0.7 L if your frame has the room, because the extra 100 ml costs you 23 g.
Drinking and refilling
The high-flow self-sealing cap maximises flow rate while cutting spills and splashes, and the bottle is easy to squeeze - so you take in more water with less effort, which is the point when you are breathing hard.
TruTaste polypropylene with HydroGuard is the part that matters more than the marketing name suggests: plastic bottles pick up flavour and hold onto it, so last week's electrolyte mix turns up in this week's water. This construction is built to stop that. Free of BPA, BPS and BPF.
Cleaning and mould
Rinse it the day you use it, especially after drink mix, and dry it with the cap off. Pull the cap assembly apart when you wash it properly - the valve is where residue collects, and it is the part people never look at until the bottle starts tasting wrong.
