Voyager 60+10 SL

The Deuter Voyager 60+10 SL is a women's travel pack that carries like a trekking pack and opens like a suitcase, with a daypack that comes off for the days you leave the big bag at the hostel.

Who it's for

Women on long trips: three months through South-East Asia, a gap year in Europe, or a lap of New Zealand's hostels. Deuter rate it five out of five for travel and four for hiking. The recommended 8-15 kg suits a backpacker's full kit.

Capacity, and what actually fits

60 litres in the main pack takes clothes for every climate, toiletries, shoes and a sleeping sheet, with a zip-out divider to keep shoes or dirty washing in the lower section. The daypack carries a passport, a water bottle, a camera and a light jacket for the day. The main pack measures 80 x 32 x 26 cm.

How it carries

A round-profile spring steel frame and the Contact back system spread moderate to heavy loads evenly so your back does less work. Padded, fully adjustable shoulder straps, stabiliser straps and hip fins with Pull-Forward adjustment and side compression pull the weight onto your hips. The daypack has its own Contact back for comfortable solo use.

Fitting it

SL is Deuter's women's fit, shaped for the female body. The VariQuick system sets the back length anywhere between 35 and 56 cm, for travellers about 158-178 cm tall. Set it to your torso length at home, load 10 kg or so and walk around before you fly.

Access and organisation

A front zip and round arch opening let you reach the whole main compartment like a suitcase, while the height-adjustable lid has pockets inside and out. There is a laptop compartment for up to 13 inch (33 cm) screens, an inside valuables pocket, side pockets and a front pocket. Docking loops on the shoulder straps hold the daypack on your chest, so your valuables stay in front of you.

2730 g, which covers a framed main pack, a second backpack with its own back system and a full transport cover. It is a whole travel luggage system in one purchase.

Looking after it

The pack is made from 600D recycled polyester and 420D recycled polyamide with a finish made without intentionally added PFAS, and is bluepass and Green Button certified. Zip it into the transport cover for flights so straps cannot catch on baggage belts, and air it out between legs of the trip. Deuter cover it with a 2-year warranty.
