Description
Gerber Prybrid-X is the multi-tool for the keyring rather than the belt. One end is a craft-knife blade that takes standard #11 hobby blades; the other end is a stubby pry bar with drivers, a wire stripper, a nail puller and a bottle opener. Wrapped around the middle is a length of 550 cord. It rides in a pocket or on a keychain with no sheath, so it is there when the tent bag zip ties need cutting, the gas canister lid needs lifting or the campsite beer needs opening.
What it actually does
- Standard #11 blade: a fine, pointed hobby blade for slicing tape, cord, cable ties and packaging. When it dulls, swap in a fresh one rather than sharpening.
- Pry bar: for lids, staples and anything that needs a lever.
- Medium and small flathead drivers: for battery covers, stove screws and loose fittings.
- Wire stripper: for quick electrical jobs around the house and shed.
- Nail puller and bottle opener.
- 550 cord wrap: cord on hand for a lanyard, a tie-down or a broken bootlace.
It is a cutting-and-prying tool, not a full multi-tool: there are no pliers, scissors or saw. For a pack-based kit it pairs well with a pair of pliers; on its own it handles the small jobs that fill most days at camp.
Size, weight and carrying
The Prybrid-X is a compact, dual-ended bar built to clip to a keyring or drop into a pocket. There is no sheath to fiddle with, and the paracord wrap gives your fingers something to grip.
Build quality
The blade runs out of the body on a thumb slider, so it sits safely inside when the tool is on your keys. Because it takes standard #11 blades, spares are easy to find and you are never stuck with a blunt edge. The pry end is a solid piece with the bottle opener, drivers, nail puller and wire stripper all cut into it, so there are no hinges to work loose. Choose Onyx Green, with a dark body and olive cord, or Blue, with a silver body and navy cord.
Looking after it
Retract the blade before the tool goes back on your keys. Change the blade as soon as it drags, and wipe the tool dry after a wet day so the cord and the blade carrier stay clean.
