Description
Gear Aid Zipper Lubricant is the fix for the tent door that jams at midnight, the wetsuit zip that fights you after a week of saltwater, and the dry bag that will not close at the put-in. This 2-pack holds two 4.5 g sticks of silicone-free zip wax, one for the repair kit and one for the shed. A few strokes along the teeth and a sticky zipper runs smoothly again.
What it fixes
- Stiff, sticky or jammed zips on tents, packs, luggage and jackets
- Watertight zips and housings on wetsuits, drysuits and dive gear
- Heavy-duty zips on soft coolers, dry bags and bikepacking bags
- Metal zips that are starting to corrode after salt or chlorine
It works on metal, plastic and coil zippers. The wax leaves a protective coat that guards against salt, chlorine, rust and corrosion, which is exactly what a zip faces after a surf session at Burleigh or a weekend paddling estuaries. It is a lubricant, not a repair: a zip with missing teeth or a worn-out slider needs a new slider or a new zip.
How to use it
- Close the zip and rub the stick along the teeth on both sides, or onto the housing of a watertight zip.
- Run the slider up and down a few times to work the wax in.
- Repeat whenever the zip starts to drag, especially after time in salt water or a chlorinated pool.
The wax stays put rather than flaking off, so it holds up through cold-water dives and hot, dusty trips alike.
Looking after it
Keep one stick in the repair kit you carry and one at home with your wetsuit and tent gear. Cap the stick after each use so grit does not stick to the wax and get carried into the zip.
