Description
Description
The Mammut Wall Rider is a climbing helmet you stop noticing a few minutes after you put it on. An EPP foam core keeps the weight down, a hard shell plate protects the crown, and wide vents let the heat out on a north-facing wall in February.
What it is
A lightweight helmet for rock climbing, alpine climbing and via ferrata. The body is EPP foam, which absorbs impact, and a partial hard shell covers the top, where falling stones land.
Who it's for
Climbers who want to keep a helmet on all day: long multipitch routes at Mount Arapiles or in the Warrumbungles, alpine starts in New Zealand, sport days when the crag above you is busy. A light helmet is one you wear on the walk-in and at the belay, not one that rides in the pack.
We stock two sizes, 52-57 cm and 56-61 cm. Measure around your head just above the eyebrows. If you land in the overlap, take the larger size if you climb with a beanie underneath in winter.
Key details
- Weight: 195 g (52-57 cm), 220 g (56-61 cm)
- EPP foam core with a partial hard shell
- Meets EN 12492
- Large ventilation openings front, sides and rear
- Padded interior
- Pared-back adjustment system and a fully adjustable chin strap
- Two clips at the front and a rubber loop at the back to hold a headlamp
The adjustment system is kept as simple as it can be, which is a large part of why the helmet is so light. The headlamp clips earn their keep on a pre-dawn start or when a long route finishes after dark.
The Wall Rider is personal protective equipment. Read Mammut's user manual before you climb in it.
Looking after it
Carry the helmet at the top of your pack or clipped outside, where nothing heavy presses on it. Retire it after a hard impact, even when no damage shows.
