Kunai Footprint 2p

The Nemo Kunai Footprint 2P is the fitted groundsheet for the Kunai 2P, Nemo's year-round backpacking tent. A tough grey sheet cut to the tent's floor, with webbing and clips at each corner, it goes down first and takes the punishment so the tent floor does not.

What it does

The Kunai is built to be pitched where the ground is hard on gear: frozen grass in the Snowy Mountains in August, gravel pads on the Western Arthurs, a rock platform above the treeline with ice in every crack. A lightweight tent floor wears through on that kind of ground long before the rest of the tent is tired. The footprint takes the grinding instead, and adds years to the floor.

The Kunai's floor is already waterproof, so the footprint is not there to keep water out. Its job is protection. It also keeps the underside of the tent cleaner, which matters when you are packing up a frosty or muddy tent in the dark.

It is sized to sit underneath the tent without showing, so there is no exposed edge to collect rain or meltwater and feed it under the floor.

Which tents it fits

This is the 2P footprint for the Nemo Kunai 2P. The webbing at each corner clips to the corners of the tent, keeping the footprint square under the floor even on sloping or wind-blasted sites, and it can stay attached so tent and footprint pitch together next time.

Looking after it

Shake off grit and snow before you fold it, and hang it until it is completely dry before storing it at home. Take a minute to clear sharp rocks from the site before you pitch; the footprint is for the ones you cannot see.
