Dual Adjust Buckle Kit

A snapped buckle on a pack hip belt or a bag strap does not have to retire the whole thing. The Gear Aid Dual Adjust Buckle Kit is a replacement side-release buckle with an adjustable ladder bar on both halves, so you thread the existing webbing through, clip it together and the repair is done. No needle, no thread, no unpicking. The strap then tightens from either side of the buckle, the same as the one that broke.

What it fixes

This repair buckle suits any strap where both sides of the old buckle were adjustable and the webbing has a free end to feed through. That covers a lot of gear:

• Hip belts and sternum straps on hiking packs.
• Compression straps on packs, duffels and sleeping bag stuff sacks.
• Straps on camera bags, tool bags and dry bags with adjustable closures.
• Webbing belts and luggage straps.

Pick the size that matches the webbing width. Our 20mm size is Gear Aid's 3/4 inch buckle, for webbing about 19 to 20 mm wide. The 40mm size is their 1.5 inch buckle, for 38 mm webbing, and the 50mm size is the 2 inch, for 51 mm webbing. Measure the strap flat across before you order.

If the webbing is sewn into a closed loop at the buckle, a dual adjust buckle cannot thread onto it. For that, the Gear Aid Snap Bar Repair Buckle opens up and clips over the sewn loop instead.

How to use it

1. Cut the broken buckle off, or slide what is left of it off the webbing.
2. Feed one strap end up through the slot on one half of the new buckle, over the bar and back down, so the webbing is locked by the bar.
3. Do the same on the other half with the other strap end.
4. Clip the halves together and pull the free ends to tension the strap. Check each side holds under load before you head out.

We stock this buckle because a good pack should not be retired over one small part. It is light enough to drop in the repair kit you carry on a multi-day walk, so a broken hip belt buckle on day two of the Overland Track becomes a quick fix at the hut rather than a sore walk out with the belt tied in a knot.

Looking after it

Rinse sand and grit out of the buckle after a beach trip or a muddy walk. Grit in the clip is what wears the latch arms and makes a buckle release under load.
