Description
The Sea to Summit Evac Ultralight Compression Dry Bag is a roll-top dry bag that squashes your sleeping bag down and keeps it dry inside your pack, for 57 g in the 3 L size. Roll the top, pull the straps, and the air escapes through the Evac base while the water stays out. It is made from 30D Ultra-Sil nylon for walkers and bikepackers who count every gram.
What it keeps dry, and how dry
The Ultra-Sil fabric is polyurethane-coated inside with a 2000 mm hydrostatic head, and the seams are double-stitched then tape-sealed. The base is Evac fabric, a waterproof laminate that lets air through, so there is no purge valve to carry or to leave open. The roll-top is hypalon and closes with a buckle.
This is the bag for inside a pack, a pannier or a bike bag: the place your quilt lives when the pack has been rained on since Pelion Hut and everything else is damp. For a bag that rides on deck or gets dragged over rock, we'd give you the Evac Lightweight Compression Dry Bag in tougher 70D nylon.
Capacity and what fits
- 3 L (57 g): a light down jacket, or spare socks, beanie and gloves.
- 5 L (64 g): a down jacket, or a summer quilt.
- 8 L (76 g): a compact down sleeping bag, or jacket and thermals together.
- 13 L (94 g): a three-season down sleeping bag.
- 20 L (110 g): a synthetic or winter sleeping bag.
Between two sizes? We'd take the bigger one. A bag with room to spare rolls shut properly, and the straps take up the slack.
Material and durability
Ultra-Sil is a 30 denier nylon woven with CORDURA yarns for strength, bluesign approved, with a PFAS-free water-repellent finish on the outside. The strap anchor points are reinforced with extra stitching, so you can fill the bag right up and still haul on the straps.
The roll-top closes with a 15 mm Field Repair Buckle: if one breaks mid-trip, a new buckle goes on and the bag carries on.
Packing and carrying
The 3 L, 5 L and 8 L have three compression straps and the 13 L and 20 L have four, pulling the load down evenly into a neat round cylinder. Once it is compressed, push it straight into a tight spot in your pack so it cannot draw air back in. The bottom of the pack under everything else is ideal.
