Voyager 65+10

The Deuter Voyager 65+10 is a full travel kit in one: a 65 litre main pack with front zip access and an adjustable harness, a day pack that clips onto its shoulder straps, and a transport cover for flights that doubles as a rain cover. It is made from recycled polyester and recycled polyamide.

Who it's for

Long-haul travellers on trips of weeks or months who want one bag for the plane and a smaller one for days out. Deuter rate it five out of five for travel and four for hiking. Think six months through South America or a gap year that starts in Europe, with 8-15 kg on board.

Capacity, and what actually fits

65 litres takes clothes for any length of trip in packing cells, walking shoes, a sleeping bag in the base compartment behind a zip-out divider, toiletries and a warm jacket. The height-adjustable lid has pockets inside and out, the side and front pockets take a bottle and a guidebook, and an inside valuables pocket keeps your passport tucked away. A laptop of up to 13 inches (33 cm) fits in the laptop compartment. The main pack measures 82 x 32 x 28 cm.

How it carries

A round-profile spring steel frame and Deuter's Contact back keep a heavy load close to your centre of gravity. Padded shoulder straps, stabiliser straps and a two-way sternum strap handle the top, and snug, padded hip fins with pull-forward adjustment take the weight onto your hips. Detachable side compression straps cinch the load.

Fitting it

VariQuick back length adjustment covers back lengths of 44-58 cm, and Deuter match the pack to travellers around 158-195 cm tall. Load it to travel weight, then hip fins first, shoulder straps second, stabilisers last.

Access and organisation

A round arch zip and front zip access open the main compartment from the front, so you never unpack from the top to find a shirt in a hostel dorm. Zips take a padlock at the anchor point. The day pack has its own Contact back and key clip, clips to docking loops on the main pack's shoulder straps to ride on your front through airports, and heads out on its own for day trips. At check-in, the transport cover with reinforced handles and an address window goes over the lot.

Weight

2830 g for the whole system: a framed 65 litre pack with an adjustable harness, a second pack and a transport cover. Leave the day pack and cover at home on a trek and you carry less.

Looking after it

The fabrics are recycled, made without intentionally added PFAS, and the pack is bluepass and Green Button certified. Use the transport cover on every flight to keep straps and buckles from catching on baggage belts, and air the pack out between legs of the trip. Deuter back it with a 2-year warranty.
