Traick 9 SL

The Deuter Traick 9 SL is a women's trail running vest in four-way stretch polyamide mesh that fits like a garment and stays put at pace. Two 500 ml HydraPak soft flasks come in the box, so it is ready to run.

Who it's for

Women trail runners heading out for long runs and races where you need water, food and a layer on you. Deuter rate it five out of five for trail running and three for hiking, so it also works for fast-and-light day walks. It suits a long run on the Gold Coast hinterland's Great Walk, a race at Ultra-Trail Australia, or a summer loop of the Kepler where the weather can turn.

Capacity and fit

9 litres in a vest that weighs 160 g. The two soft flasks ride in the front pouches, and the back takes a bladder of up to 1.5 L plus a wind shell or a light layer in the main compartment. Recommended load is 2-5 kg.

SL is Deuter's women's fit, shaped to a woman's frame. Choose by chest measurement: XS fits 76-82 cm and S fits 83-89 cm. If you are between sizes, the bungee sternum straps take up the difference, so go by the size that matches your chest when you breathe in.

Drinking and refilling

The included soft flasks sit high on the shoulder straps, so you drink without breaking stride. Stash pockets at the back and side access let you refill a bladder or stuff in a jacket quickly. Each shoulder strap has four pockets, including a zipped one for your phone or keys, and there is a zipped rear pocket too.

Cleaning and mould

Rinse the soft flasks with warm water after every run and dry them open, upside down, so nothing grows in them. The vest itself is washable and the fabric dries fast, so wash out the salt after a hot run rather than letting it build up.
