Description

The Deuter Junior is a small, tough daypack that gives kids their own proper pack, built with the same ventilated back Deuter uses on its bike packs. It is light enough for a seven-year-old and has room for everything a day out needs.

Who it's for

Kids from about seven, roughly 130-168 cm tall, who want to carry their own water, snacks and jumper: a family walk to Natural Bridge, a day at the zoo, school excursions and weekend bike rides. It is equally at home as an everyday school or kindy bag.

Capacity, and what actually fits

18 litres takes a lunchbox, a water bottle in each side pocket, a rain jacket stuffed in the stretch front pocket, a jumper, a hat and sunscreen. The zipped lid pocket keeps small treasures safe, and the key clip holds house keys. The pack measures 41 x 23 x 20 cm.

How it carries

The Airstripes back puts two padded strips against the back with a ventilation channel between them, so air moves across more than 80% of the back and sweaty shirts are kept to a minimum. S-shaped shoulder straps with a Soft-Edge finish wrap around narrow shoulders without digging in, and a 2-way adjustable sternum strap keeps the pack in place even when they run.

Fitting it

The Junior suits back lengths of 32-44 cm and children about 130-168 cm tall. Tighten the shoulder straps so the pack sits snug and high, then clip the sternum strap across the chest, and it will not bounce on the trail or the way to school.

Weight

400 g empty, so the pack never becomes the heavy thing. We stock the Junior because a child who carries their own pack walks further and feels more part of the trip.

Looking after it

The fabric is tough PU-coated 600D polyester and 210D recycled polyamide, with a finish made without intentionally added PFAS, and the pack is bluepass and Green Button certified. Reflective lettering and details help drivers see your kids on the walk home. Deuter cover it with a 2-year warranty.
