Futura Pro 30 SL

The Deuter Futura Pro 30 SL is a women's-fit hiking pack with an adjustable, ventilated back and the organisation to carry a full day or a hut-to-hut trip. SL is Deuter's women's fit: a shorter back system shaped around a woman's frame.

Who it's for

Women walking long days with a real load, and lightweight overnighters. Deuter rate it five out of five for hiking. It suits a big day out, or a hot climb in the Grampians where you want 3 L of water on board.

Capacity, and what actually fits

30 litres holds a 3 L bladder, rain gear, a puffy, lunch, a first aid kit and a camera, with a sleeping bag liner or spare clothes in the separate bottom compartment. The zip-out divider turns the bottom compartment and main compartment into one when you need the space. The pack measures 61 x 32 x 24 cm and carries a recommended 6-10 kg.

How it carries

A flexi spring steel frame suspends the mesh back so air flows behind you, and the soft mesh runs the full length of the back for a wrapping fit on smaller frames. The shoulder straps are anchored straight to the frame, so the load transfers cleanly, and the ActiveFit straps pivot with your arms. Padded, breathable hip fins with Pull-Forward adjustment carry the weight on your hips, and the hip fins and shoulder straps share one continuous piece of padding, so there is no seam to rub.

Fitting it

VariClick sets the back length in five positions, from S (36-40 cm) through S/M, M and M/L to L (46-50 cm), with an audible click at each. The adjustment comes from the centre of the pack so it stays even, and the stabiliser straps have two anchor positions. Deuter list an overall back length of 35-56 cm and body heights of 158-178 cm.

Access and organisation

Load from the top under the drawcord and lid. Two lid compartments take snacks and a map, a large stretch side pocket opens from two directions so you can grab a bottle without stopping, and two hip fin pockets keep your phone close. Quick-release pole attachments on the shoulder straps hold your poles while you scramble, plus there is an ice axe and pole loop on the side.

Weight

1500 g empty. The extra over a basic daypack buys the adjustable back, frame-anchored straps and full ventilation, which is what makes 8 kg feel settled at the end of a long day.

Looking after it

The recycled 210D polyamide X-Grid is bluepass and Green Button certified, finished without intentionally added PFAS.
