The Deuter Futura 23 is the compact member of the Futura family: a 23 litre day pack in recycled polyamide with the ventilated Aircomfort mesh back the line is known for. It suits walkers who want a cool back and a stable carry on a day that is long on distance but light on gear.

Capacity, and what actually fits

23 litres fits a 3 L bladder in its sleeve, a rain jacket, a fleece, lunch and a first aid kit, with a wet compartment inside to keep a damp shell off the rest. Stretch side pockets take bottles, the mesh front pocket takes a map, and the zipped top pocket holds sunscreen and keys. Hip fin pockets keep snacks and a phone in reach. The pack measures 57 x 28 x 18 cm.

How it carries

A flexi spring steel frame bows the back mesh away from you, so the pack meets you at the shoulders and hips and air flows through the gap. ActiveFit shoulder straps pivot with your stride, breathable padded hip fins with Pull-Forward adjustment draw the load onto your hips, and stabiliser straps plus a one-handed sternum buckle keep it from swaying on rocky descents.
