Description
The Sea to Summit Alto BigFoot Tent Footprint is a waterproof 68D polyester groundsheet made for the Alto TR1 and Alto TR2 tents. It sits under the tent floor, carries a 1200 mm hydrostatic head, and extends out under the vestibule to give your gear a dry patch of its own.
What it does
It takes the wear so your tent floor does not. An ultralight tent floor is thin by design, and a season of granite slabs, sharp gravel and snapped sticks will find it. With the footprint down first, that abrasion lands on the 68D polyester instead, and the floor stays clean on the underside when the ground is muddy.
The BigFoot version goes further than the floor. It runs out under the vestibule, so the pack, boots and cook kit you leave outside the inner door sit on fabric rather than wet ground. On a soggy night at Lake Tali Karng or a dewy morning in the Victorian high country, that is a pack you can pick up dry.
The footprint is cut to its tent rather than oversized. With no edge poking out beyond the fly, rain has nothing to catch on and run underneath you. Tough Hypalon attachment points around the edge connect it to the tent corners.
It also opens up a lighter way to camp. Pitch the Alto's fly over the footprint without the inner and you have a floored shelter for fast trips when the bugs are not biting.
Which tents it fits
Sea to Summit Alto tents. Match the footprint to your tent size: the TR1 footprint goes under the one-person Alto TR1, and the TR2 footprint under the two-person Alto TR2. The TR2 is much wider than the TR1 because it reaches out under the vestibules on both sides of the tent.
Weight and packed size
- BigFoot TR1: 224 g, 225.5 x 158.5 cm laid flat
- BigFoot TR2: 350 g, 222 x 282 cm laid flat
Both fold into a flat storage pouch that slides down the side of a pack, so a wet footprint travels apart from the tent and the rest of your gear.
