Frequently Asked Questions
Of the poles we stock, the Carbon Ultra Zero Compact and Carbon C3 Cloud Compact are the lightest, at 350 g a pair, adjusting from 90 to 120 cm. In the full 105 to 140 cm range, the Carbon Ultra Zero and Carbon C3 Cloud weigh 374 g a pair. For the smallest pack size, the FX Lite Carbon Vario Summit folds to 41 cm.
Both are Komperdell's self-unfolding folding systems: release the pole and the sections pull themselves together. FX Lite poles run on an internal cord and have a Powerlock for 20 cm of adjustment. The FXP.4 poles drop all four sections into place and also use a Powerlock. The FXP trail running poles come in fixed lengths.
Yes. Most of our Komperdell trekking poles use the vario basket fitting, which takes a wider winter basket. Poles with the ice-flex tip, such as the Carbon FXP.4 Expedition Vario and Stiletto Expedition, take our Ice Flex Winter Basket, and the Regular UL Iceflake FXP Basket fits Komperdell FXP poles. For ski touring, the Stiletto Expedition adjusts its length at the push of a button.
Komperdell's product information mentions a three-year free repair service on their poles. If a pole you bought from us has a problem, contact us with your order number and photos, and we'll work through it with you. Never use lubricant on the shafts or locks, as it stops them gripping.

Carbon or aluminium?
Carbon saves weight: the Carbon Ultra Zero is 187 g a pole. Aluminium is the pair you can wedge into rock and lend out without worrying. On long, rough tracks like the Larapinta, many walkers pick aluminium. On the Overland Track boardwalks, carbon's lighter swing pays off over a long day. See all brands in Hiking Poles.
