Weight against durability

Carbon in the top two sections keeps the swing light, so your arms are not lifting dead weight with every plant. The bottom section is Titanal.HF alloy, because that is the part of any pole that gets wedged between rocks and dragged across scree.

Locking and adjustment

Each pole telescopes through three sections, 18, 16 and 14 mm in diameter, and locks with Powerlock 3.0: clamps forged from aluminium, the strongest lock in Komperdell's range. Set your length anywhere from 90 to 120 cm, shorten a little for the climb, lengthen for the descent, and never go past the maximum length mark printed on the shaft.

Packed length

Fully collapsed, each pole is 57 cm. That is short enough to strap the pair to your pack when the track turns into a scramble and you want both hands on the rock, then pull them out again for the walk down.

Grips and baskets

The Trek Pro 280 foam grip is light and soft in the hand, with an extended grip zone running down the shaft, so on a short steep pinch you slide your hand down rather than stopping to re-set the clamps. The Comfort Padded strap is soft against your wrist. The vario basket system is easy and quick to change between summer and winter baskets.

Looking after it

Dry and clean the poles after each walk, store them with the clamps open rather than locked, and keep lubricant off the shafts and the locking system.
