Description
Orca Openwater Swim Socks are neoprene swimming socks, 2.5 mm thick, that keep your feet insulated in cold water so you can stay in longer. They pull on like a sock and tuck under your wetsuit leg, a lighter choice than a wetsuit boot.
Who it's for
Open water swimmers and triathletes whose feet feel the cold first. Pull them on for an early-season ocean swim, a winter squad session in the bay or a cold lake before a race. They also take the sting out of the walk to the water over cold sand and gravel.
Buoyancy and flexibility
At 2.5 mm the neoprene is thick enough to hold warmth and thin enough that your ankle still moves freely through the kick. The sock shape, with a rounded toe and a tall cuff, pulls on quickly, and the lining sits smoothly against your skin.
Getting the size right
Sizing is unisex and follows your shoe size:
- XXS: EU 37, UK 4.5
- XS: EU 38.5, UK 5.5
- S: EU 40, UK 6.5
- M: EU 41, UK 7.5
- L: EU 42.5, UK 8.5
- XL: EU 44, UK 9.5
- XXL: EU 45, UK 10.5
- XXXL: EU 46, UK 11.5
- XXXXL: EU 47, UK 12.5
Go for a close fit with your toes at the end of the sock and nothing baggy around the heel or ankle. Pull the cuff up first, then roll your wetsuit leg down over it so the join is covered and water stays out.
Water temperature range
Swim Socks earn their place whenever cold feet are what would send you in early: the shoulder seasons on the east coast, and autumn through spring in Victoria, Tasmania and South Australia. When the water is at its coldest, we'd step up to the thermal-lined Orca Hydro Booties.
