Gear Aid Revivex Durable Water Repellent is a spray-on garment treatment that puts the water-beading finish back on rain jackets, soft shells, ski pants, tent flys and packs. The formula is PFAS-free with zero fluorocarbons, it is made for waterproof breathable fabrics including GORE-TEX, eVent and NeoShell, and it comes in 148 ml and 296 ml trigger bottles.
What it is
Every rain shell leaves the factory with a durable water repellent (DWR) finish that makes rain bead up and roll off. Wear, dirt and washing flatten it, the face fabric starts soaking up water, and the jacket feels clammy and heavy even though the membrane underneath is still doing its job. Revivex lays that finish back down, so water beads again and the fabric keeps breathing.
Who it's for
Anyone whose jacket has started to wet out across the shoulders and cuffs, where pack straps and hands wear the finish away first. It is the treatment to do before a week on the Overland Track or the first weekend of the season at Perisher. It covers gloves, waders, packs and fabric footwear as well.
If your shell is only grubby, start with a wash: a clean and a tumble dry often brings the original finish back by itself. Reach for the spray when water still soaks in afterwards.

How to apply it
- Wash the garment first with a clean-rinsing technical cleaner such as Revivex Pro Cleaner. Household detergent and fabric softener leave a residue that stops the spray bonding.
- Hang the garment on a hanger, wet or dry, somewhere with plenty of fresh air.
- Shake the bottle and spray from 13 to 25 cm away in even passes. Go heavier on the shoulders and cuffs. If it is running off the fabric, you are putting on too much.
- Tumble dry on medium heat if the care label allows it, or hang it to air dry for 24 hours.
Looking after it
Keep the bottle somewhere cool and dry, and do not let it freeze. Re-treat your gear whenever water stops beading on it.
