Racerocket MT

The Topeak RaceRocket MT is an all-aluminium mini pump made for mountain bike tyres. A wider barrel moves 68 cc of air with every stroke, it pumps up to 90 psi (6 bar), and a SmartHead ThreadLock head on an extendable hose fills Presta and Schrader valves. A side mount bracket comes in the box.

Who it's for

Trail and cross-country riders who want a pump on the bike for the flat that happens halfway round the loop. The RaceRocket MT is the fattest pump in Topeak's RaceRocket range, sized for the high-volume tyres on a modern mountain bike or gravel bike. It rides on the frame, in a jersey pocket or in a saddle bag, so it is with you at the far end of the Nerang trails or deep in the Mount Joyce network, not back in the car park.

Pressure and volume

Mini pumps trade volume against pressure, and the RaceRocket MT is set up for volume. Every stroke delivers 68 cc of air, which is what gets a big mountain bike tyre from flat back to riding pressure without an age spent pumping at the side of the track. The ceiling is 90 psi (6 bar), plenty of headroom for tyres that run at a fraction of that.

Valve compatibility

The SmartHead ThreadLock head threads onto Presta and Schrader valves, so the same pump suits every bike in the shed. It sits on the end of an extendable hose, which means you are not levering on the valve stem while you pump; the hose takes the strain instead of the valve. An integrated dust cap keeps grit out of the head between uses.

The PCT cap doubles as a valve core tool. If a two-piece Presta core loosens, or you need to pull one to add sealant, the cap tightens or removes it on the spot.

Carrying it

The included side mount bracket holds the RaceRocket MT on the frame, and it measures 19.6 x 3.7 x 3.3 cm, small enough for a jersey pocket or a saddle bag if you would rather keep the frame clean. The barrel is CNC machined aluminium and the handle is aluminium with a rubber grip, so it shrugs off being bounced around on the bike.
