Description
SaltStick Race Ready Caps Plus are electrolyte capsules with caffeine — 314 mg of electrolytes and 30 mg of caffeine per capsule, taken with water every 30 to 60 minutes. They use sodium citrate rather than plain salt, and carry no sugar.
What it is and when to use it
The caffeinated capsule in the SaltStick range, for race day and the back half of long efforts. 30 mg of caffeine per capsule is a deliberately small dose — about a third of a coffee — so it stacks gradually across an event rather than hitting all at once.
Not the one to take every hour of a very long day. Plain SaltStick Caps carry more electrolytes per capsule and no stimulant, and most people alternate.
Taste and texture
Flavourless, swallowed with water. The capsule is vegetable-based. Like the plain Caps, the appeal is that it stays neutral when sweet drinks and chews have stopped being welcome.
Caffeine, sodium and what varies
30 mg of caffeine and up to 314 mg of electrolytes per capsule, with no sugar. Note the electrolyte load is lower than plain Caps at 660 mg — these are the caffeine option, not the high-sodium one.
Made with sodium citrate rather than sodium chloride, which is gentler on the stomach for some people. Gluten free, no soy or nuts, no sweeteners and no high fructose corn syrup. SaltStick state independent testing for banned substances.
How to take it
One capsule with water every 30 to 60 minutes during activity. Work out your caffeine total across the whole event rather than per dose, and practise it in training — race day is the wrong time to discover how you react.
