Nemo Persist Endless Promise All-Adventure Backpack

Rock one weekend, snow the next, a three-day trip after that. The Nemo Persist Endless Promise is built to be the one pack for all of it: a rugged, clean-sided mountain pack with a back panel that keeps you dry on the climb and a lashing system for whatever the day needs strapped on the outside.

Who it's for

Climbers, scramblers and hikers who want a tough pack that does not shred on granite. The 30L is for big single days: a Mount Barney ridge, a multi-pitch day at Mount Arapiles, a snowshoe up Mount Stirling. The 45L is for multi-day trips: two or three nights on the Overland Track, a winter hut trip, a traverse of the Main Range. Both come in men's and women's fits.

Capacity, and what actually fits

• Men's 30L (31 L, 58 x 30 x 26 cm): day kit plus climbing rack and rope on the outside
• Women's 30L (30 L, 53 x 34 x 27 cm): the same day-trip load on a women's harness
• Men's 45L (45 L, 66 x 31 x 32 cm): a compact sleep system, stove and two to three days of food
• Women's 45L (42 L, 64 x 34 x 33 cm): a light multi-day load on a women's harness

Two universal lash straps come with every Persist, and the lashing system takes trekking poles, a foam mat, a rope or other mountain kit.

How it carries

The DryWing back panel wraps around your back and is lined with CCubed, Nemo's air-filled, recyclable cushioning that wicks sweat and keeps pulling it away from your body. The shoulder straps and padded hip belt are reinforced with CCubed too, so heavier loads spread evenly onto your hips.

Fitting it

Men's packs fit torso lengths of 43-53 cm and women's packs 38-48 cm. To measure, run a tape from the bony bump at the base of your neck down your spine to the line across the tops of your hip bones. If you measure in the overlap, 43-48 cm, either fit will work; go with the one that sits better on your hips and shoulders with weight in it.

Access and organisation

The 30L packs open through a big U-shaped zip, so you can see and reach everything at once on a belay ledge. The 45L packs load from the top under a zippered lid and add a side zip to reach the bottom of the bag. Every Persist has storage in the shoulder straps and the hip belt, including a tuck-away bottle pocket you can reach without stopping, plus two hip belt pockets. The 30L adds a tablet sleeve, and all four are hydration compatible.

Weight

Men's 30L 1.45 kg; Women's 30L 1.39 kg; Men's 45L 1.68 kg; Women's 45L 1.55 kg. The shell is CERO, a solution-dyed 300D/900D ripstop that shrugs off abrasion and sheds rain far better than standard pack fabric, though the pack is not waterproof: line it on a wet multi-day trip.

Looking after it

Persist is part of Nemo's Endless Promise range, designed for recyclability with hardware that comes off easily, so when it finally wears out it can go to recycling rather than landfill. Until then, rinse off grit after rock days and dry it in the shade.
