Description

The Ottie Merino Multiwear Neck Gaiter is a tube of 210 gsm superfine Australian merino with 5% elastane, knitted in Melbourne. Wear it round your neck, pull it up as a face cover, draw it over your head as a balaclava or fold it into a headband. S/M is 45 cm long and 45 cm round; M/L is 47 cm long and 50 cm round. Grey or black.

Who it's for

Anyone who wants one small layer that changes job through the day. Start a frosty ski morning at Falls Creek with it pulled up over your nose on the chairlift, push it down round your neck when the sun comes out, and turn it into a headband for the walk back to the lodge. On a winter hike on the Overland Track, pull it up across an exposed saddle, then roll it into a pocket. Runners and riders use it the same way on a cold dawn loop. Merino resists odour, so it does not need a wash after every wear.

Fit and layering

It is a single tube with stretch, so there are no buckles or toggles: pull it on over your head and arrange it. Ottie make two sizes:

  • S/M: 45 cm long, 45 cm circumference
  • M/L: 47 cm long, 50 cm circumference

The M/L is the one to choose if you have a larger head or want it to sit loosely over a jacket collar; the S/M sits closer at the neck. At 45 cm or more long, either size has the length to reach from the base of the neck up over the nose, or to pull right over the head as a hood.

Fabric and construction

The knit is the same 210 gsm superfine merino Ottie use for their thermals: 95% Australian wool at 18.4 microns, with 5% elastane. It is breathable, moisture-wicking, odour-resistant and temperature-regulating. The wool is traceable and mulesing-free, grown in New South Wales, Victoria, Tasmania and South Australia, spun overseas, then knitted and made up in Melbourne by an Australian Made certified manufacturer.

Looking after it

Cool wash with a wool-friendly detergent and dry it flat. Merino resists odour, so it does not need washing after every wear.
