Description
XTM Performance men's thermal pants in 100% fine Australian merino wool, knitted at 230 gsm from 20.5 micron fibre. Slim fit, flatlock seams, UPF 50+, in sizes S to 3XL. They are the bottom half of a winter layering system: next to skin, under ski pants or walking trousers, doing the quiet work of keeping your legs at a steady temperature.
Who it's for
Anyone whose legs get cold before the rest of them does. Think first chair at Perisher, a frosty start on the Main Range, or sitting around camp in the Victorian high country once the sun drops behind the ridge. Merino regulates body temperature, so the same pair that keeps you warm on the chairlift stays comfortable when you are working hard on the climb.
Merino is also naturally odour resistant, which is why we point multi-day walkers and ski-trip packers at wool: one pair goes a long way between washes.
Fit and layering
Slim fit, shaped to sit close to the body. That is what you want in a base layer, because fabric that touches skin is fabric that can manage moisture and warmth. A soft jacquard waistband sits flat under a pack hip belt or ski pant waist, and flatlock seams keep chafing down when you are moving all day.
- Slim, close-to-body cut
- Soft jacquard waistband
- Flatlock seams to minimise chafing
- Men's sizes S to 3XL
Fabric and construction
The fabric is an interlock knit of 100% fine Australian merino at 230 gsm, spun from 20.5 micron fibre. Fine fibre is the reason these feel soft rather than scratchy against skin. The fabric carries a UPF 50+ rating, and the pants are Woolmark certified, OEKO-TEX Standard 100 certified and a certified carbon neutral product.
Packability and weight
Average weight is 195 g a pair, so a spare set of thermal pants for camp costs you very little room in the pack.
Care
Wash cold and let them air dry. Between washes, hanging them up overnight is usually all merino needs, which suits a hut trip or a week at the snow.
