Description
The Deuter Pico is a little backpack for little people: 5 litres of recycled polyester, cut and padded for a two or three year old, so they can carry their own lunchbox and drink bottle to kindy. It weighs 200 g, and it is built with the same attention to fit as a Deuter adult pack.
Who it's for
Toddlers from about two years old, roughly 92-98 cm tall, heading to daycare, kindy or a family day out. It is the right size for a picnic at the botanic gardens, a short walk to the waterfall at Springbrook, or the trip to the grandparents' with a favourite toy on board.
Capacity, and what actually fits
5 litres takes a small lunchbox, a spare set of clothes, a hat and a soft toy. Two stretch side pockets hold drink bottles upright where a small child can reach them. Inside is a label for writing their name, and reflective name lettering adds visibility. The pack measures 28 x 19 x 12 cm.
How it carries
A soft padded back panel with an airy cover sits comfortably against a small back, and S-shaped shoulder straps with soft edges curve around narrow shoulders without rubbing their neck. A two-way adjustable sternum strap clips across the chest so the straps stay put when they run.
Fitting it
The Pico is sized for back lengths of 20-23 cm and children around 92-98 cm tall. Shorten the shoulder straps until the base of the pack sits at their lower back, not on their bottom, then clip the sternum strap at chest height. Pack the heavier things, like the drink bottle and lunchbox, close to their back.
Weight
200 g empty, so a toddler is carrying their lunch, not the bag.
Looking after it
The fabric is recycled polyester made without intentionally added PFAS, and the pack is bluepass and Green Button certified. Deuter back it with a 2-year warranty.
