Description

The Deuter Aircontact Pro 75+10 is a 75-litre trekking pack that extends to 85 litres with the lid raised. It weighs 2920 g and uses Deuter's Aircontact back system with the VariClick adjustable back length.

Who it's for

Long trips and expeditions where organisation matters as much as capacity. The Pro is heavier than the Core by around 500 g, and every gram of that is compartments, tougher fabric and the detachable lid.

If you pack in dry bags and do not want the extra pockets, the Core carries the same load for less weight and less money.

Capacity, and what actually fits

What the +10 means. The lid extends. A 45+10 carries 45 litres packed normally and 55 with the lid raised, which is the difference between a week and a fortnight, or between carrying your own food and carrying someone else's too. It is not a model number.

75 litres extending to 85 — genuine expedition capacity, for long unsupported trips or carrying a share of group equipment.

How it carries

Same Aircontact back system and VariClick adjustment as the Core, in a tougher build: 200D recycled ripstop rather than plain, which resists tearing on rock and scrub.

The lid detaches and becomes a daypack, which is the Pro's real argument. On a trip with a base camp, that is one fewer bag to carry in.

Fitting it

Back length, not height, decides the size — measure from the bony bump at the base of your neck to the top of your hip bones. Deuter's VariClick system adjusts back length on these packs, with two anchor positions for the stabiliser straps, so there is real range in one pack.

Load the hip belt first and get 80% of the weight onto your hips. Shoulder straps only stop the pack falling backwards; if they are carrying the load, the pack is wrongly adjusted rather than wrongly sized.

Looking after it

Empty it after every trip and let it dry fully before storing — a damp pack in a cupboard grows mould in the foam you cannot reach. Wash by hand in cool water when it needs it, never in a machine, and never with detergent that strips the coating.

FAQ's

What does the +10 mean on a Deuter pack?
The lid extends. A 75+10 carries 75 litres packed normally and 85 with the lid raised, which covers the difference between a week out and a fortnight.

What does SL mean on a Deuter backpack?
SL is Deuter's women's fit — narrower shoulder straps set closer together, a shorter back length and a hip belt angled differently. It is a different pack, not a different colour.

What size backpack do I need for trekking?
Rough guide: 45 to 55 litres for a few days, 60 to 70 for a week or more, and 75 plus when you carry for two or need winter gear. The extending lid buys you a size either way.

How do you fit a Deuter Aircontact pack?
Measure back length, not height — from the bony bump at the base of your neck to the top of your hips. VariClick adjusts the back length, so one pack covers real range.

What is the difference between Aircontact Core and Pro?
Organisation and toughness rather than size. Pro adds compartments, a tougher ripstop fabric and a lid that detaches into a daypack, and weighs roughly 500 g more for the same capacity.
