      FAQ's

      1. How do you fix a broken zipper on a tent?

When it comes to repairing a broken tent zipper, the process for how to achieve this will depend on the type of break. If the zipper is missing teeth or has broken teeth you will need to replace the entire zipper with a new one. Should the zip have become misaligned, is missing the pull or is separated or stuck, you may be able to remedy this with some patience, lubricant and a pair of pliers to gently manipulate the components back to their correct place so the zip can function as usual. Keep in mind that most quality tents come with a comprehensive warranty that covers components such as zippers should they stop working as expected. If the break is due to general wear and tear improper use or inadequate storage, your warranty may not be helpful. It is recommended to always speak with the manufacturer regarding broken zippers in case the repair can be handled by the company directly as a manufacturing fault.

      2. Is it easy to fix a tent zipper?

Again, this really depends on the reason the zipper is broken. Some zips can be rehabilitated and fixed without needing to be completely replaced. There are a variety of emergency zip kits you can purchase and pack with you should you be concerned about zip failure while out adventuring. Should you need to completely remove and replace a zipper, this can be quite complicated. You will need to use a seam ripper to unstitch the zipper from the tent opening, source a new zipper of the right length and style and then re-sew the zip into the opening. Sewing a zipper in can be challenging and is best done using a sewing machine due to the amount of tension the fabric on either side of the zip will be hand-sewing the zip in may not be strong enough. It may be easier to seek professional help from an experienced repairer to sew the zip back in.

      3. How long does it take to fix a broken tent zip?

If replacing the entire zip, a replacement can take a few hours of dedicated attention - if handing it over to professionals, you could be without your tent for a few days or weeks depending on their workload. For simple repairs such as replacing the slider or resolving separated and stuck zippers, this could see the repair carried out in as little as 10 minutes.
