Description
The Lezyne Zecto Drive Max 400+ Rear is a small, square tail light that punches well above its size: 400 lumens in its daytime flash, six modes in all, and a body of only 43 x 45 x 38 mm and 68 g. A rubber strap fixes it to a seat post, and a clip on the back lets it ride on a saddle bag, a backpack or a jersey loop instead.
Who it's for
Road riders, commuters and gravel riders who want to be picked out by drivers in full sun as well as at night. If your week includes a dawn bunch ride down the Gold Coast Highway, a ride home through Brisbane traffic in the dusk, or a long day on the back roads where cars come up fast, this is a tail light that earns its place on the bike.
Brightness and runtime together
Six modes trade output for hours:
- Day Flash: 400 lumens for 16 hours, built for daylight on busy roads
- Blast: 80 lumens solid for 3 hours 45 minutes
- Pulse: 80 lumens for 9 hours
- Flash 1: 50 lumens for 13 hours
- Economy: 15 lumens solid for 18 hours
- Femto: 5 lumens for 70 hours, enough for a multi-day tour without a charge
The light remembers the last mode you used, so it comes back on the way you left it, and it eases its output back by itself if it ever gets too hot.
Beam shape
The main lens faces straight back at the traffic behind you, and the power indicator LEDs on each side add a glow you can see from the side, which helps at intersections and roundabouts where a car is looking across your path rather than along it.
Charging and battery
The 1300 mAh battery charges through a USB-C port behind a rubber cover, and a full charge takes 4 to 6 hours from a powered port. The side LEDs double as a fuel gauge: green from 100% to 75%, green and red from 75% to 25%, and red below 25%. A single click while the light is off shows the charge level. The cable is not included, so use the one you already charge your phone with.
Mounting
The 2-in-1 mount gives you two options in one: a rubber strap that wraps a seat post, or a clip for bag loops and straps. That makes it easy to move from the road bike to the commuter, or onto a bikepacking seat pack when the seat post is hidden.
Weather resistance
The Zecto Drive Max is tested to IPX7. Seat the USB-C cover fully after charging and summer storms and road spray are no trouble.
