Gear Aid Aquaseal+NEO is a black neoprene contact cement, the wetsuit repair glue that closes a split seam or a fingernail tear in the time it takes to have a coffee. It comes in a 44 ml tube, bonds permanently to neoprene, and sets into an elastic rubber that stretches every time you pull the suit on.
What it fixes
- Rips, nicks and split seams in neoprene wetsuits.
- Tears in booties, gloves, hoods and neoprene waders.
- Spray skirts and leaky gaskets.
- Knees, elbows and other high-wear spots, coated for abrasion protection.
It sticks to neoprene, rubber, latex, leather and most fabrics, and a finished repair handles use from -29 to 66 °C. Aquaseal+NEO dries black and sets fast, which is what you want on a wetsuit. For a clear repair on breathable waders, a drysuit or a rain jacket, we'd give you Aquaseal +FD.
How to use it
- Get the tear clean and dry. Rinse out the salt and sand, then let the neoprene dry right through.
- Run a thin line of Aquaseal+NEO along both faces of the tear. Leave it for 5 minutes, until it is tacky.
- Add a second thin coat to both faces and leave it for 10 minutes.
- Bring the edges together carefully, lining them up the first time, and hold them with light pressure for 5 to 10 minutes.
That is a repair finished in about half an hour, quick enough to do on the grass at Snapper Rocks between the morning session and the afternoon one. Work somewhere between 16 and 27 °C: out of the midday sun in summer, indoors on a cold morning.
Shelf life and storage
Wipe the nozzle, screw the cap on firmly and keep the tube somewhere cool and dry. It is small enough to live in the wetsuit tub or the dive bag, where it is on hand when a seam lets go.
