Tenacious Tape Reflective Tape

Gear Aid Tenacious Tape Reflective Tape is a 7.6 x 50 cm strip of silver reflective tape with a peel-off backing, small enough to live in a running or bike repair kit. Cut it to whatever shape you need, press it on, and that dark running jacket, pack or bike bag lights up when a car's headlights or a mate's head torch swings across it. The reflective face uses glass bead technology, which returns more light than coloured or fluorescent tape, and the adhesive grips almost any gear surface, wet or dry.

What it fixes

This is the tape for gear that keeps you out after dark but was never made to be seen. Dawn runs on a road shoulder, a ride home along an unlit bike path, a campsite where the guy lines and pack straps disappear once the sun is down. Stripes on the heel of your running shoes, a band around a helmet, a few shapes on the back of a pack or a dog's harness, and you show up when a beam of light hits you.

It is a reflector, not a light. It shines back only when a light source hits it, so pair it with a head torch or bike light rather than relying on it alone. Gear Aid lists non-oiled leather only, so we would skip oiled or waxed leather.

How to use it

1. Work at room temperature. Make sure the surface is clean and dry.
2. Cut the strip to shape before you peel off the backing.
3. Peel off the backing, place the piece and press it down firmly all over.

No sewing machine, no iron. If you put a piece in the wrong spot, it can be peeled off again.

Shelf life and storage

Keep the unused part of the strip in a zip-lock bag or a small container so the backing stays flat and the adhesive stays clean. We stock it because one strip turns a black jacket into one drivers can see.
