The Sea to Summit Tek Towel is a quick-drying microfibre towel with a deep, soft terry pile, made from 80% recycled polyester and 20% nylon. It dries you like the towel in your bathroom, then dries itself on a guy line while you cook dinner.

Who it's for

Anyone who has tried a thin travel towel and hated the feel of it. The Tek Towel is the plush one in the Sea to Summit range: the most absorbent of their four towels, with a looped terry finish. It is the towel for the campground shower block, the swim at the bottom of the falls, the gym bag and the hostel, and the one we point people to when comfort ranks ahead of grams.

Size and absorbency

Pick the size by the job:

  • Small, 80 x 40 cm, 120 g: hand and face towel, or a hair towel.
  • Medium, 100 x 50 cm, 200 g: a gym towel, and enough to dry off after a swim.
  • Large, 120 x 60 cm, 285 g: a proper shower towel for most people.
  • X-Large, 150 x 75 cm, 445 g: bath-sheet size, big enough to wrap around you or lie on at the beach.

The deep pile is what soaks up the water. Pat or rub, it behaves like cotton terry.

Drying time and packed size

The microfibre is quick drying. Wring the Tek Towel out, snap the hang loop around a branch, a tent guy or the roof rack, and let the breeze do the rest while you cook dinner. The corners are rounded so they do not curl or fray.

Each towel lives in a soft zippered EVA case. In the case, the Small packs to 14.5 x 10.5 x 6.4 cm (162 g), the Medium to 17.5 x 12 x 7.6 cm (233 g), the Large to 20 x 12 x 8.3 cm (325 g) and the X-Large to 25.5 x 15 x 8.9 cm (485 g).

Odour and washing

Machine washable. Wash it on its own the first few times, as the dye can run, and leave out the fabric softener: softener coats the fibres and the towel stops absorbing. There is no chemical treatment on the fabric, so the rule is simple. Get it fully dry before it goes back in the case and it stays fresh.
