The XTM Takayna is a 330 g women's packable rain jacket built from 100% recycled fabric, with a 2.5-layer HydroVENT20+ shell rated to 20,000 mm waterproof and 20,000 g breathability. It packs into its own front pocket, has fully taped seams and a PFC-free water repellent finish. All profits fund forest protection in Tasmania's Takayna.

Who it's for

A jacket to carry rather than a jacket to wear all day. At 330 g packed into its own pocket it lives in a daypack, a pannier or a car door and comes out when the weather turns - day walks, travel, spectating, commuting.

Less suited to sustained alpine use or carrying a heavy pack for days. A 2.5-layer shell has no separate liner, so the membrane sits against your skin or baselayer and pack straps wear it faster than a three-layer construction would.

What the ratings mean

20,000 mm is the hydrostatic head - the water column the fabric holds before it leaks. Anything above 10,000 mm is considered fully waterproof for hiking, so 20,000 mm sits comfortably in the serious end of the range. The 20,000 g figure is breathability, measuring how much water vapour escapes per square metre per day; it is what stops you getting as wet from the inside as the outside on a climb.

The seams are fully taped, which matters more than either number - an untaped seam leaks regardless of what the fabric is rated to.
