Who it's for

The shell you carry rather than the shell you wear. Small enough packed that there is never an argument about bringing it, which matters more than anything else a rain jacket does - the jacket that stays home is the one it rains on.

You need a rain jacket anyway.

Waterproofing and breathability

HydroVENT20+ with a 20K breathability rating: 20,000 mm of water pressure held out, and 20,000 g/m2/24h of moisture let back through. Both numbers matter and most jackets publish only one. The first keeps sustained rain out rather than a shower; the second is why you are not soaked from the inside twenty minutes into a climb.

Every seam is taped - which is where cheap shells leak first - and a double storm flap covers the zip.

Fit and layering

Cut as a shell, so it goes over a fleece or a base layer rather than being worn alone in the cold. The hood is fully adjustable, which is the feature you notice in side-on rain and the one most jackets get wrong.

Fabric and construction

2.5-layer construction - face fabric, membrane, and a printed protective layer instead of a full mesh liner. That is the trade that makes it this light and this packable. All 100% recycled, with a PFC-free DWR, which is the harder engineering choice on both counts.

Packability and weight

Light enough that it lives in the pack rather than being a decision. It stows into its own front pocket, so it packs to about the size of that pocket and clips onto a harness or drops into a daypack lid.

Care

Wash it more often than you think. A dirty face fabric wets out and stops breathing, and that is what people mistake for a jacket leaking. Use a technical wash rather than detergent, and reproof with a PFC-free DWR when water stops beading. Certified carbon neutral.
