Description
Description
The Arva Ski Trip 240 is an aluminium avalanche probe that folds into short 30 cm sections, so it fits a slim day pack, a splitboard pack or a ski bag on the way to Japan. Pull it out, throw the sections and pulling the handle quickly pulls the tension cable tight on 2.40 m of probe.
Who it's for
Skiers and snowboarders who chase snow around the world and want a probe that packs small: Niseko and Hakuba in January, the Southern Alps in August, the Main Range in between. It is just as at home on day tours closer to home. Everyone in the party carries a probe along with their transceiver and shovel.
How it performs in a search
Eight 30 cm sections of 12 mm, 7001 T6 aluminium give you 2.40 m of reach on a stainless steel tension cord. Precise markings along the tube indicate snow depth.
Using it under pressure
Arva's Rack Lock system quickly pulls the tension cable tight as you pull the handle, and cone inserts make the segments easy to assemble. A grip makes it easy to handle, and the pull handle snaps onto the main tube. The Ski Trip 240 lives in a pouch printed with step-by-step avalanche rescue instructions.
Maintenance and checks
Assemble the probe fully before each season and each trip: it should lock firmly and stand straight, with no fraying on the cable and no dents at the joints. Dry it out of its pouch after a wet day before storing it.
