Description

Gear Aid Seam Grip + TF Tent Fabric Sealant is the repair for a tired tent coating. When the polyurethane coating on a floor or fly starts to peel, flake, smell or go tacky, that fabric is no longer keeping water out. Seam Grip + TF lays down a fresh, clear coat of water-based urethane straight from a bottle with its own foam applicator, so an old favourite is ready for another wet season in Tasmania or a summer storm on the Scenic Rim.

What it fixes

  • Flaking or peeling coating on the inside of tent floors
  • Sticky, worn coating on the underside of rain flies
  • Tarps, bivy bags and rainwear that have started to leak through the fabric
  • The inside of packs and dry bags where the coating has broken down
  • Worn, high-traffic patches on other PU-coated synthetic gear

It bonds to nylon, polyester, canvas, vinyl and most other fabrics, cures flexible so the fabric can still fold and stretch, and handles -29 to 82 °C once dry. One 118 ml bottle covers about 7.9 m² of fabric.

Seam Grip + TF is for polyurethane-coated fabric only. It will not stick to silnylon or other silicone-treated fabric; those need a silicone sealant such as Gear Aid Seam Grip + SIL.

How to use it

  1. Take off the old coating first. Soak the item for 2 to 3 hours in warm water with about five drops of liquid soap, then gently scrub the coated side with isopropyl alcohol, water and a couple of drops of soap. Let it dry fully.
  2. Shake the bottle well, unscrew the top and remove the seal under it.
  3. Hold the applicator against the fabric and press the bottle into it until the foam is soaked.
  4. Spread a thin film over the coated side, soaking the foam again as needed.
  5. Leave it for 4 hours at room temperature, keeping treated surfaces from touching. Check it is dry before folding.
  6. Dust the dry coating with a little talcum powder to take away any tackiness.

Apply it somewhere between 16 and 38 °C, with room to lay the fabric out flat while it dries.

Shelf life and storage

Keep the bottle in a cool, dry place and never let it freeze: Seam Grip + TF does not survive a freeze-thaw cycle.
